We fish for King salmon, Lake Trout, Pike, Walleye and Smallmouth Bass. The Salmon are targeted via trolling while the Lakers can be pursued via trolling or by jigging. Walleye, pike and smallmouth are targeted through trolling and jigging as well.
As with anything, there are preferred times to better ensure your success. The hot and heavy salmon fishing typically runs from the middle of July through the first week of September, offering plenty of opportunities to reel in some big ones.
While we can certainly chase Lake Trout throughout the year, some of the best and most aggressive jig bites occur from ice off and into June. This is all water temperature based. Spring time Pike, Walleye and Smallmouth can be extremely productive but can get more challenging as the heat of the summer progresses. This doesn’t mean we won’t find jigging action after this time period, it just means we have to work harder.
Fort Peck is home to one of Montana’s strongest lake trout populations, producing some of the largest fish in the state each year. These cold-water fish are available throughout much of the season, giving anglers an opportunity to target trophy-class catches while enjoying Fort Peck’s deep, scenic waters.
Fort Peck is one of the few inland lakes where anglers can catch landlocked Chinook (King) Salmon. These powerful fish are typically targeted during the summer months, when they gather in deeper sections of the lake. It’s a unique freshwater salmon experience you won’t find anywhere else in Montana.
Walleye are Fort Peck’s most sought-after species and are found throughout the lake. The reservoir consistently produces both numbers and size, making it one of the best walleye destinations in the region. Many guests combine walleye with pike or bass for a full multi-species day on the water.
Northern Pike are aggressive and always ready to strike, offering steady action and plenty of excitement. Fort Peck’s bays and coves provide excellent pike habitat, and these trips are popular with anglers who enjoy a more hands-on, fast-paced day of fishing.
Smallmouth bass thrive in Fort Peck’s rocky habitat. They’re strong, reliable fighters that provide consistent action through the warmer months. Bass trips are an excellent choice for families, beginners, or anglers who want a day of steady bites and great scenery.
For multiple day charters, there is a $50 discount off of each additional day.
